History of the Blues 101 with Lew Jetton at McCracken County Public Library

The McCracken County Public Library is offering an opportunity February 13 to learn the history of a uniquely American musical genre - The Blues.

Blues artist Lew Jetton will lead the presentation, taking a look back the humble beginnings of the genre on Southern plantations, through the call and response hymns made famous in African American churches, to the world-renowned masters of today.

It’s a fascinating journey which includes many mysteries and milestones. Did a legendary bluesman really sell his soul to the devil? Hear about Robert Johnson’s encounter at The Crossroads, as well as personal stories from Lew about his time around many Blues legends.

Be prepared to also hear Lew perform live through the history of The Blues, highlighting artists like Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Elmore James, Memphis Minnie, Snooky Pryor, BB King and more.

Even Blues aficionados are sure to pick a couple of extra bits of knowledge at the presentation on Thursday, February 13 from 7-8 pm.
