Paducah's 55th Annual Dogwood Trail

PADUCAH - The Civic Beautification Board (CBB) and City of Paducah sponsor the annual Dogwood Trail. This year is the 55th Annual Dogwood Trail. Signs along the 16-mile trail have been up for weeks - the path is marked. Now citizens are urged to LIGHT UP!

Listed below are dates to mark for festivities planned around spring in Paducah and the blooming trees:
Saturday, April 13th - Dogwood Tree Sales with best prices of the season at Lowes, Montgomery Gardens, Blooms n Gardens, James Sanders Nursery and Wahls Landscaping, Garden & Antique Shoppe.
Saturday, April 13th - The CBB members will be going door-to-door to encourage those on the trail to "Light Up Paducah! Quilters Are Coming!"

Saturday, April 13 - Spring Clean Up Day (Dump Day) is an opportunity to dispose of various types of solid and household hazardous waste. The free service, rain or shine, will be from 7 am until 2 pm at the Republic Services transfer station, 829 Burnett St. All Paducah and McCracken County residents must bring proper identification (such as a driver’s license) to verify residency.

Saturday, April 13 - Spring Clean Up Day in downtown Paducah. Meet at the gazebo between 9 am and noon to help plant, sweep and spruce up downtown.

Sunday, April 14th - 55th Annual Lighted Dogwood Trail officially begins.

Sunday, April 14th - Boy Scouts will place flags in the yards that are on the trail and are part of their Flag Program. Flags should be lighted at dark. The Scouts will leave the flags in place during the first week of the Dogwood Trail. For more info about the Boy Scout Flag Fundraising program, go to:

Sunday, April 14th - Countdown to the Dogwood Trail Bike Ride. Get out your bike. This leisurely afternoon bicycle tour along the Dogwood Trail is traditionally the first ride of the cycling season. It starts at BikeWorld at 2:30 pm and ends at BikeWorld, 809 Joe Clifton Dr. The ride takes about an hour and a half at a relaxed pace. New riders, children in trailers, senior citizens, all ages are welcome. No fee. Bicycle helmets are required. BikeWorld staff rides along and provides support. There’s also SAG, a follow vehicle. There are some hills on the outer part of the route, but the route is an "out and back" with riders turning around at any point. Stay for a potluck after the ride. BikeWorld provides meat, drinks and tableware. Riders and families are invited to bring side dishes or desserts.

Tuesday, April 16th - On and off trail judging of lighted lawns will begin at dusk.
Wednesday, April 17th - Signs will be placed in yards and winners will be announced.

Thursday, April 18th - Trollies will drive the Dogwood Trail and citizens are invited to board at the Paducah Area Transit System's offices at 9th and Harrison Street beginning at 6:30 pm. $1 donation is requested to take the tour which includes selected portions of the trail.

Monday-Wednesday, April 22, 23 & 24 - The Paducah School of Art will be accepting Dogwood Art & Photography Contest entries. Link to the site below and scroll down to Dogwood Art & Photo Contest for details.

Wednesday - Saturday, April 24, 25, 26 & 27 - American Quilters Society 35th Annual Spring Quilt Show and Contest at the Schroeder Expo Center, Convention Center and festivities all around town. Spring Quilt Week Paducah.

Friday, April 26th - Hang a Quilt Day! It's just what is says, hang a quilt anywhere at your home, business, on your front porch, door or really anywhere. The idea is to visibly show our support for the art of quilting in "Quilt City USA".
Tuesday, April 30th - Dogwood Art and Photography Contest winners will be announced and displayed at the Paducah School of Art and City Hall through May 10th.
Thursday, May 2nd - There will be a reception and awards presented for the Dogwood Trail Art & Photography Contest and winners on and off the Dogwood Trail during the City Hall Unveiling Ceremony at 4 pm at Paducah City Hall.

South Side and Lone Oak Hank Brothers will have lots of dogwood lighting supplies and now stock beautiful dogwood pottery, banners, etc. for those interested in participating in the Dogwood celebration.
