Reception for Andrew Maraniss Feb 24 at Crounse Hall

PADUCAH - Andrew Maraniss, author of Games of Deception will visit WKCTC on Monday, February 24. A reception with refreshments and a book signing will be in Crounse Hall, room 101 at 6 pm followed by a community presentation at 7 pm.

Maraniss writes a different kind of sports book, bringing together history and social justice themes in an exciting narrative nonfiction style that captures one's attention. Games of Deception is the remarkable true story of the birth of Olympic basketball at the 1936 Summer Games in Hilter's Germany.

On a scorching hot day, thousands cheered as the U.S. Olympic teams boarded the S.S. Manhattan, bound for Berlin. Among the atheletes were the 14 players representing the first-ever U.S. Olympic basketball team. As thousands waved American flags on the docks, it was easy to miss the one courageous man holding a BOYCOTT NAZI GERMANY sign. This is a true story of basketball and its place in a major turning point of world history.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear from a visiting author as he recounts what led him to bring this story to life.
