Southern Seven Health Department's "Tour de Seven Fall into Fitness 5k" in Cairo

CAIRO - Helping residents of Southern Illinois stay healthy is a primary focus of Southern Seven Health Department, and one way they do this is by hosting their annual “Tour de Seven – Fall into Fitness 5K Run/Walk”.

Now in its 5th year, the “Tour de Seven” will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 9:00 am at the St. Mary’s Park in Cairo. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Cairo Women’s Shelter. The organization plans to host the run each year in a different county in their district.

Community Health & Emergency Service, Inc. (CHESI) will bring their Wellness on Wheels (WOW) van to provide free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, and more.

Early registration for the “Tour de Seven” is $25. Late registration is $30. T-shirt sizes are guaranteed for participants pre-registered by August 16.

The 5k is a moderately difficult course starting on the North side of the historic St. Mary's Park then along the Mississippi River Levee coming back to end on the South side of St. Mary's Park.  Because the course is not paved, includes some rocky areas, and crosses a train track, it is not stroller or wheelchair friendly. Pets on a leash are welcome. Hydration/First Aid Stations will be available.

The one mile "Jigidy Jag" will start at 9:30AM. It is a free event, but everyone is encouraged to bring one women’s personal hygiene or cleaning product such as deodorant, shampoo, lotion or toothpaste. Bleach, Pinesol, Fabulosa, and laundry and dishwashing detergent will also be accepted. A t-shirt can be ordered for $10.

The “Tour de Seven” is held each year in conjunction with the Annual Cairo Blues and Gospel Festival in historic downtown Cairo at the Heritage Foundation Pavilion on 8th and Commercial Ave. There will be a parade, music, fireworks and food & craft vendors.
