MSU to Host Education Abroad Fair Sept. 13

MURRAY -  Murray State University’s education abroad office will hold an Education Abroad Fair Sept. 13 from 11 am to 2 pm on the second floor of the Curris Center.

“It's a big event to showcase all the study abroad programs we have coming up in the next year,” said Robyn Pizzo, education abroad advisor at Murray State. “There will be snacks and giveaways. Plus, students who sign in will be entered to win a free study abroad application fee.”

Program representatives as well as Murray State students, faculty and staff will share information about their selected programs during the fair with students who are interested in learning about education abroad opportunities. Students still exploring their options might use this informal event to narrow their search and speak with others who have already experienced the programs.

Education abroad programs offer the unique opportunity to gain course credits while seeing the world and experiencing different cultures.

“[This experience] expands your worldview, teaches you about other countries as well as our own and enhances students' knowledge of their major and intended career field,” Pizzo said. “It also has major personal benefits, such as greater independence, problem-solving skills and cross-cultural communication skills.”

A team of advisors in the education abroad office at Murray State are prepared to help students manage the planning and cost of programs through one-on-one advising sessions, scholarship workshops and budget sheets.

The education abroad office recommends that students keep the academic fit for the program in mind — how it fulfills their major, minor, area or other degree requirements. They also ask that students consider their personal goals, such as independence, language fluency or heritage-seeking when selecting an education abroad program.
