Hospital Brings 'Health Express' Screening to Area
By WestKyStar Staff
MURRAY, KY - Murray-Calloway County Hospital’s Health Express will be offering blood pressure checks, pulse and lipid profiles during the month of July.

The screenings are free to the communities visited by Health Express and are provided to detect diseases in the earliest stages when there are often no symptoms. Under most circumstances, cholesterol and triglyceride levels (lipids) should be checked every five years. The screening is FREE to every Health Express patron once every five years. More frequent testing requires a doctor’s written prescription and costs $15.

Annual screenings are recommended for diabetes patients. The cholesterol (HDL/LDL) and triglyceride screening requires a food fast (water only) for 12 hours. A Fecal Occult Blood Screening Kit is always available on the Health Express for $4. This screening detects blood in the stool, which can be an early indicator of colon cancer.

During the month of July, the Health Express will make stops to the following locations:

Tuesday, July 10 - Weaks Community Center in Murray from 8-11 a.m.

Thursday, July 12 - Park Road- North Park in Calvert City from 6-10 a.m. (Blood pressure, pulmonary function, osteoporosis heel scan and lipid screenings)

Tuesday, July 24 - Marshall County Senior Center from 9-11 a.m. (Blood sugar and blood pressure screenings)

Friday, July 27 - Save-A-Lot in Murray from 6-10 a.m.

Tuesday, July 21 - Lowe’s Home Improvement in Mayfield from 6-10 a.m.
