MURRAY, KY - Murray-Calloway County Hospital is hosting educational events and support groups during the month of July to community members and MCCH employees:
The Lap Band Support Group will meet Thursday, July 5 at 11:30 a.m. in the Bariatric Solutions office located in Suite 100 West in the Medical Arts Building. The support group meeting will be offered again on the same date, Thursday, July 5, at 5:30 p.m. in the Center for Health and Wellness Classroom. The Breast Feeding Support Group, Mother to Mother, will meet Thursdays, July 5, 12, 19 and 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church which is located at 100 South 15th Street in Murray. The Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet Tuesday, July 10 at 5 p.m. at Shared Care located in the George Weaks Community Center. For more information, call Connie Stalls, LPN, at 270-753-0576.
The Sleeve Gastrectomy Support Group will meet Tuesday, July 10 at 11:30 a.m. in the Bariatric Solutions office located in Suite 100 West in the Medical Arts Building. The support group meeting will be offered again on the same date, Tuesday, July 10, at 5:30 p.m. in the Center for Health and Wellness Classroom. The Parkinson’s Support Group will meet Tuesdays, July 10 and 24 at 12 p.m. at the George Weaks Community Center. Come at 11:30 a.m. if you plan to eat with the Senior Citizens. Contact Dixie Hopkins at 270-753-6001 for more information.
A Blood Drive for the MCCH Blood Donor Center will be held Wednesday, July 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Center for Health and Wellness. Take the time to stop by and give the gift of life.
The Epilepsy Support Group will meet Thursday, July 12 at 6 p.m. in Suite 301 East in the Medical Arts Building at MCCH. For more information, contact the West KY Epilepsy Center at 270-762-1566.
Diabetes self-management classes will be taught Tuesday, July 17 and Wednesday, July 18 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the MCCH Educational Services building at the corner of South 8th and Elm streets. Join Carol Foreman with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network on Tuesday, July 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the Center for Health and Wellness to learn about the free services and resources made available through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Carol, after suffering the loss of her father to pancreatic cancer, found herself with little information, few resources, and no one to turn to. Since that time, she has dedicated herself to making sure others in our area will not endure those same struggles that she had to face.

A nutrition education event titled Sweet Treats That Don’t Defeat will be held Wednesday, July 18 from 12-12:30 p.m. at the Center for Health and Wellness. Successful weight loss and long-term weight management come from an investment in lifestyle change not fad diets. With that said, there are few of us who are willing to sacrifice our “sweet treats” for life. Join Lauren Gray, Registered Dietician, and learn how you can still have those “sweet treats” while maintaining a healthy balance.
