Maiden Alley Hosts Premiere of Pickin' & Grinnin'
By WestKyStar Staff
PADUCAH, KY - Paducah’s Maiden Alley Cinema will host the world-wide theatrical priemiere of the film "Pickin' & Grinnin'" on August 24.
Murray's own W. Earl Brown is featured in the film. Brown talked to Greg Dunker on his WKYX morning show, a link to the podcast is below.  Showtimes: Friday 7 pm and 9 pm, Sunday 4:30 pm and 7 pm

House Lights Media, Port Magee Productions and the Maiden Alley Cinema announced the premiere of the film, a soulful, smart musical road comedy about the Brothers Johnson’s search for meaning in an otherwise meaningless life. It features Co-Writers and Stars Johnny Dower and Garret Mathany.

Dowers and Mathany answer the novel question, "why aren’t there more songs about Corndogs", with their original award winning score that introduces reverence to Corndogs, God loving money, and other unique musical themes that many would not have the heart (or thought) to tackle.

Shot on location starting in Los Angeles and traveling across the country visiting small towns throughout the southwest until they reach Nashville, Tennessee in Gomer, a Winnebago with a personality of its own that is truly a secondary star of the film, the film teams a unique cast of characters to weave its masterful tale.

Music-loving brothers, Johnny Jake and Milo Johnson sing about the ordinary corndog to earn a living. The Johnson family legacy is failure. And though they've tried their best, the singing duo are staring eminent catastrophe in the face after years of work has propelled them no further than performing in polyester at the roller derby.

On the verge of calling it quits, they hear about the Sing-A-Ling contest in Nashville. Short on talent and even shorter on money, the Johnson's hit the road on a last-ditch mission of musical redemption, picking up their mute mandolin carrying cousin Two Pint for the trip. With help from additional eccentric strangers along the way, who each add an unusual chapter in the book called life, the brothers make the cross-country trip in Gomer in hopes of becoming stars.  If at first you don't succeed, try and fail again.

After it's World Premiere in Paducah, PICKIN’ & GRINNIN’ opens in select cities nationwide starting September 7 including the LA premiere at Laemmle’s Town Center 5 in Encino, CA and outside of Nashville, TN at the Thoroughbred Theater in Franklin, TN

The film's cast includes Murray native W. Earl Brown, who has had roles in Deadwood and There's Something About Mary. Others appearing in the film are Frances Bay (Happy Gilmore, Seinfeld); Tracey Walter (Batman); Garrett Morris (Saturday Night Live, Two Broke Girls); Robert Baker (Grey’s Anatomy); Sandy Martin (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia); Geoffrey Lewis (Every Which Way But Loose); Ricky Trammell (Stick It, The Salton Sea); and features Kenny Loggins as himself and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. It also introduces Fuschia Sumner, who has music in her genes since her father is Sting, formerly of The Police.

Pickin' & Ginnin' is 107 minutes long, and is rated R.
