David Hoy, Paducah Tilghman High School sophomore, has been awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution Youth Citizenship Medal for his demonstration of outstanding patriotism, honor, service, courage, and leadership.

Nominated by Paducah Tilghman, Hoy received a medal and certificate from Cindy Byrd, member of the Paducah chapter of the DAR, for his contributions to his community. He recently completed a multi-year project in which he secured a historical marker honoring Kentucky Boy Scout Troop One’s longevity and significance in the region.

Hoy worked with the Kentucky Historical Society and did in-depth independent research while working on the project. The historical marker was recently unveiled at the corner of 9th and Kentucky Avenue.

The DAR Youth Citizenship Medal was established to foster a greater appreciation of the qualities of American citizenship among schoolchildren. Schools and service organizations may nominate one student per grade in grades 5-11.

“David has always been interested in history, and it is wonderful to see him using his academic passions to make a difference in Paducah,” said Tilghman guidance consultant Sid Hancock. “The positive impact he has in both his school and community is indicative of Paducah Tilghman’s tradition of excellence.”

Hoy is a member of the Paducah Tilghman Band of Blue, the marching band, and the jazz band. He plays the tenor saxophone. He is also a member of the Medical Explorers at Baptist Health Paducah. Hoy recently earned his Eagle Scout rank. He is the son of Marta and Van Hoy.
