HAIRDRYER SCIENCE
We all know the hairdryer is great for drying your hair, but can it be used to help get your family “Hooked on Science?” Jason Lindsey aka “Mr. Science” with Hooked on Science says yes and shows us how in this week’s experiment of the week.
INGREDIENTS
- · Hairdryer
- · 2 Balloons
INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1: Blow up a balloon and tie the end so the air stays inside. Blow up another balloon so that it is bigger than the first and tie the end so the air stays inside.
STEP 2: Turn the hairdryer on and hold the hairdryer so the flow of air is pushing toward the ceiling.
STEP 3: Place the smaller balloon in the flow of air. Carefully place the larger balloon on top of the smaller balloon and observe.
EXPLANATION
As the flow of air pushes the balloons upward; gravity pulls the balloons downward making the balloons look as if they are floating in the air. There is enough air flowing around the smaller balloon to force the larger balloon into the air.
