Lowes Elementary School and its new principal, Rachael Adams, have crossed paths at a great time for each to benefit from the other and for both to collaborate to help the school’s students continue to thrive and grow.

“I’ve weighed my future in administration for a really long time,” Adams explained. “Every elementary principal I’ve ever known has said they absolutely love it, that you come in every day to hugs and it’s just such a supportive, encouraging environment! It’s unlike high school, where your day is non-stop dealing with conflict. I just think it will be very rewarding. I am particularly concerned about education at the elementary level because I know that those foundational years determine whether a child becomes a successful adult in the future. Really, those first three or four years of school set the tone for the rest of their life! I think it’s important that every child get the opportunity to have a happy, successful life. I think it’s smart to invest resources in K-3 education because that’s the foundation for a lifetime!”

“We believe Mrs. Adams is the best person for the job,” said Lowes teacher Amanda Turner, chair of its site-based decision-making council that hired the new principal. “She has a tremendous amount of experience, including administration. She’s going to bring a lot of new ideas and continue to help us on the positive path that ‘Mr. Marc [Maviagliano]’ started us on as principal over the past two years. I see a lot of great things for our school in the future.”

“I’ve done a little bit of everything in my career,” said Adams, whose work in education has spanned 22 years. She taught middle and high school for 18 ½ years. She then served two years as assistant principal for instruction at Edmonson County High School. For the past three years, she served as principal of Trimble County High School, located in northern Kentucky, between Louisville and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Adams earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Indiana. She then completed a master’s degree and an education specialist degree at Western Kentucky University. She hopes now to pursue a doctorate, most likely at Murray State University.

Her youngest son, Eli, is 21 and majoring in mechanical engineering at WKU, in Bowling Green, within easy driving distance.

Adams also will live much closer to her daughter, Brittany, and son-in-law, Ben Collins, whose home is in Tennessee, just south of Murray. The couple’s daughter, Amry, will celebrate her second birthday in mid-August, right about the time her parents’ second child and Adams’ second grandchild is expected to be born. The new Lowes principal said, with a broad smile, “That’s another reason I really want to be here!”
