Murray State University’s Hutson School of Agriculture will host the second annual Agriculture Appreciation Week Oct. 28–Nov. 3. Geared toward advocating for agriculture in a positive way on Murray State’s campus, this year’s theme is “Race AGainst Hunger,” drawn from Ryan Quarles, Kentucky commissioner of agriculture. Earlier this year, Quarles announced a statewide Kentucky Hunger Task Force initiative to assist in ending hunger in Kentucky.

The event kicks off on Friday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 pm with a concert by Peterson Farm Brothers at the William “Bill” Cherry Agriculture Exposition Center. The concert is free, but monetary donations will be accepted and go towards the Murray Kids Care for Hunger meal packaging event scheduled for the following week.

Various club booths and a farm animal meet-and-greet begins at 10 am on Monday, Oct. 31 outside the Carr Health Building with a grill out starting at 11 am. A Halloween fun run outside the Oakley Applied Science building takes place at 3:30 pm with on-site registration starting at 3 pm. The cost is $15 and participants are encouraged to dress in costume. Proceeds will help support the meal packaging initiative.

An internship and career fair is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 2 from 9 am until noon at the Curris Center small ballroom.

On Thursday, Nov. 3, a hunger task force and press conference will be held at 2 pm. Members of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Kentucky Food Banks, Monsanto, Murray’s Kids Care for Hunger, the Murray State University food pantry and more will be present. The Hutson School of Agriculture will be packaging 40,000 macaroni meals that day at the CFSB Center beginning at 3:30 pm and will continue to package meals during the men’s basketball game that evening.
