Paducah Tilghman High School juniors Anna Grace McGee, Peyton Patel, Emery Wainscott, Taylor Willis, and Kaleb White have been chosen as scholars, and Jose Ricardo dos Remedios has been chosen as an alternate, for the 2017 Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program.

The Governor's Scholars Program is a prestigious five-week summer program that is limited to 1,060 of the state's most outstanding students. Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience.

The program is designed to help the participants achieve their academic and personal potential, encourage leadership skills, and to develop the their creativity and critical thinking skills. The scholars will convene this year at Northern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, and Murray State University.

McGee is a member of the National Honor Society, the Kentucky Junior Historical Society, and the Interact club. She competes on the academic team, the mock trial team, and is a staff writer on the Tilghman Bell. McGee serves as a student intern on the Paducah Human Rights Commission, is a volunteer at Baptist Health Paducah, and is an advisor for the Clark Elementary academic team. She is the daughter of Laura and Raymond McGee.

Patel is a member of the National Honor Society and the student council. She competes on the PTHS swim team, is a member of the Literary Circle, and volunteers with the Interact club. Patel is a recent graduate of the Paducah Youth Lead program. She is the daughter of Melanie and Shiraz Patel.

Wainscott is a member of the National Honor Society, the speech and debate team, the student council, and the concert choir. She competes on the academic team and future problem solvers team, and she is a staff writer on the Tilghman Bell. Wainscott volunteers as a peer tutor at Tilghman and is a member of the Lourdes Hospital Teen Volunteer Program. She is the daughter of Jodi and Britton Wainscott.

Willis is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. She competes on the PTHS academic team, the soccer team, and the cross country team. She is a volunteer advisor on the Clark Elementary and Paducah Middle School academic teams. She is the daughter of Julie and Chris Sheffer and Gary Willis.

White is a member of the National Honor Society and the Future Business Leaders of America. He competes on the PTHS varsity soccer team, serving as captain of the team. He volunteers with the Dentistry from the Heart program and serves as a student mentor for the Paducah Public Schools’ chapter of the Kentucky Junior Historical Society program, assisting elementary school students with their projects. He is the son of Missy and Kelvin White.

Dos Remedios is a member of the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, and the PTHS Band of Blue. In addition, he competes on the Tilghman academic team. He is a volunteer at Concord United Methodist Church. He is the son of Julie and Roberto dos Remedios.
