'Salute to Education' Features New Superintendents

The Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce monthly Power in Partnership breakfast will feature the annual “Salute to Education” on Thursday, Nov. 6. The doors open at 6:45 am for viewing of the school displays and the breakfast program begins at 7:30 am. The event is held at the Julian Carroll Convention Center and Baptist Health Paducah is the November sponsor.

Local schools participating in the Salute include Paducah Public Schools, McCracken County Public Schools, St. Mary School System, and Community Christian Academy. The schools will have displays about their accomplishments and students representing each school will be in attendance. The displays will be open for viewing beginning at 6:45 am. 

The featured speakers are Donald Shively, Superintendent of Paducah Public Schools and Quin Sutton, Superintendent of McCracken County Schools. “With both of our public schools having recently hired new superintendents, we thought it would be informative for both of them to be the featured speakers at the breakfast,” said Sandra Wilson, Chamber President. “This breakfast is our largest one of the year with all of the schools and their students participating.”   

Donald Shively was named Superintendent of Paducah Public Schools in 2014. He had previously served as Assistant Superintendent since 2011. From 2004 to 2011, he was the principal at Ballard Memorial High School. From 1997 to 2004, he held several positions at Paducah Tilghman High School, including science teacher, assistant football coach, athletic director, assistant principal and member of the site-based decision-making council.



 



He holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Centre College in Danville and a master's degree in educational leadership from Murray State University. Shively is currently working on his doctorate of education in P-20 and community leadership program at Murray State.



 



Quin Sutton was named Superintendent of McCracken County Public Schools in 2014.  He began his career as an agriculture teacher in Lyon County in 1988 and has worked in administration since 1996. From 2005-2008 he was the assistant superintendent and the director of pupil personnel at Caldwell County Schools. In 2008, he became superintendent of Lyon County Schools.



  



He holds a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, master’s of science degree in agriculture and a Rank 1 from Murray State University.
