St. Mary High School senior, Emily Hodges, was selected as a semifinalist in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 16,000 semifinalists were selected and 15,000 will advance to the finalist level. Those academically talented seniors who were chosen as finalists will compete for more than $32 million in scholarships that will be awarded in the spring.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance and was formed to honor and recognize the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraged the pursuit of academic success. National Merit Scholars are selected on the basis of skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

In addition to being selected as semifinalist, Hodges was selected for the Governors Scholar Program and is a four-year member of the St. Mary varsity volleyball team. She is the daughter of Chris and Jennifer Hodges.
