The public is invited to a town hall meeting in Paducah on Thursday, June 20 to learn more about the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act and how it benefits current or former workers at nuclear facilities.

Representatives from the Department of Labor, Department of Energy, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and the Office of the Ombudsman for DOL will present information on their roles in the program.

The legislation provides lump-sum compensation and medical benefits to current and former workers, or their survivors, who developed illnesses as a result of working in a facility involved in nuclear weapons production. Covered illnesses include but are not limited to radiation-induced cancer, chronic beryllium disease, beryllium sensitivity, chronic silicosis, or an illness due to exposure to toxic substances.

There will be a morning session for claimants and authorized representatives, and a later session for medical providers.

Those who attend will have a chance to participate in a Q&A session following each presentation.

Current and former employees of Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant or any facility involved in nuclear weapons production are encouraged to attend.

The meeting will be held from 9 am to 5 pm in room 109 of the Emerging Technology Center of WKCTC at 5100 Alben Barkley Drive in Paducah.
