Makes about 6 dozen medium size muffins

2 cups All-Bran cereal
2 cups boiling water
1 cup butter Crisco shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 quart buttermilk
3 cups bleached flour
2 cups whole-wheat flour
5 teaspoons soda
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups All-Bran cereal
Raisins, craisins, chopped nuts and/or chopped dates

Pour water over 2 cups cereal. Cream Crisco, sugar and eggs. Add buttermilk and soaked cereal. Sift together flours, soda and salt. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture. Fold in remaining 4 cups cereal. Place in a covered bowl and leave in refrigerator until ready to use. Keeps 3-4 weeks. Add raisins, craisins, cranberries, shredded coconut, chopped nuts and/or dates right before pouring into muffin tins. Bake in well greased muffin tins or tins with paper liners at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.
