The City of Paducah will be holding its annual Independence Day Celebration on Monday, July 4. The festivities will include food, fireworks, a community art project, and free entertainment on Wilson Stage and along Broadway just inside of 3rd Street.  As estimated 8000-10,000 people come each year to the riverfront to enjoy Paducah’s celebration. Food vendors will begin serving at 1 p.m. on the riverfront with musical entertainment on Wilson Stage beginning at 3 p.m., an earlier start as compared to last year.

Special Events Coordinator Molly Tomasallo says, “We are starting the entertainment even earlier this year.  There will be live music and entertainment on the riverfront stage and street-side from inside 3rd Street to the foot of Broadway.  We also will have a Kidz Zone on Water Street.   Food vendors start serving at 1 pm on the riverfront; live music starts on Wilson stage at 3 p.m.; street-side entertainment on Broadway begins at 4 p.m.; and the Kidz Zone will be full of activity starting at 5 p.m.”

Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. with the fireworks discharged from a barge provided by Pine Bluff Materials.  The tug is provided by Ingram Barge Company.  The City of Paducah appreciates the support of the tug and barge companies in making this event such a success.

The City has contracted with Arthur Rozzi Pyrotechnics for the approximately 20-minute fireworks show with a finale.   Tomasallo says, “Arthur Rozzi impressed us with last year’s display.  We can expect another creative and beautiful show choreographed to music with speakers placed along the riverfront near Wilson Stage."  If a thunderstorm is in the area at the scheduled time for the fireworks, the fireworks show will be delayed until the weather clears.  The Paducah Fire and Police Departments and the U.S. Coast Guard will be at the event for additional safety.

For the second year in a row, there will be a large-scale community art project organized by Better than Ever and the Paducah Parks and Police Departments.  The project, My Old Kentucky Home, will be on display on Broadway between 2nd Street and Water Street.  From 5 until 8 p.m., stop by to paint a 4-inch square tile that will be used to fill in the outline of the state of Kentucky.

Also on Broadway, enjoy the Paducah Jazz Band from 4 until 6 p.m. at the gazebo located at the corner of 2nd and Broadway.  On Broadway near Third Street, the Jim Stott Magic Show will be from 5 until 6 p.m. with the Paducah Quick-Step Cloggers from 6 until 7 p.m.  In front of Hooper’s Outdoor Center, the Jamaica Me Happy Steel Drums Band will be playing from 7 until 9 p.m.

From 5 until 8 p.m., there will be a Kidz Zone on Water Street between Jefferson and Broadway.  Kids can enjoy laser tag, face painting, balloons, corn hole, and animals.  There will be photo opportunities including the backdrop of a patriotically-painted tractor.

Entertainment on Wilson Stage is as follows:

·         Corey Evitts and Revolver (band) - 3-4:30 p.m.
·         Comments from community leaders - 5-5:15 p.m.
·         Posting of the Colors Ceremony - 5:15-5:45 p.m.

Boaters will have to use the Ohio River Boat Launch at 6th and Burnett Streets.  The floodwall opening at Broadway will close Sunday evening, July 3.  At 2 p.m. on July 4, the floodwall openings at Kentucky, Jefferson, Schultz Park, the Farmers’ Market, and the former Executive Inn site will be limited to pedestrian traffic only.  Broadway at 3rd Street in addition to Water Street behind the Carson Center will close to vehicular traffic at 2 p.m.  Kentucky Avenue at 3rd Street will close to traffic at 4 p.m.
