Serves 6-8

4 cups thinly sliced or diced apples (I use Granny Smith's)

1/2 cup quick oats

3/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup all purpose flour

3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/3 cup butter, softened

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Arrange sliced apples in lightly greased deep dish pie plate or 8" X 8" pan. Combine oats, sugar, flour, nutmeg and cinnamon. Stir in the softened butter and sprinkle mixture over the apples. Bake at 375 degrees for about 30 minutes.

Cutting the apples into small chunks or thin slices makes the cooking time much faster. This is a quick, simple and tasty dessert or breakfast recipe. To serve as a dessert, add whipped cream or frozen vanilla yogurt or ice cream.

I like to add 1/2 cup pecan pieces to the flour mixture to give this recipe an even "crispier" crunch - not to mention added flavor.
