Investigation underway after inmate death at McCracken County Regional Jail

An investigation is underway following the death of an inmate at the McCracken County Regional Jail.

Jailer Stephen Carter told West Kentucky Star that Kentucky State Police were called in to investigate the death of 35-year-old Brandon Bowman. Bowman, who entered the jail on July 29th, was in the fifth day of a seven-day sentence on contempt charges when he died on Sunday, according to Carter.

He said that the preliminary investigation indicated Bowman’s death was the result of a medical incident. A statement from KSP confirmed that and added that Bowman was in the presence of medical staff when the incident occurred. Bowman was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Per procedure, Bowman was taken by the McCracken County Coroner to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The KSP statement also indicated that “medical complications” were uncovered during that autopsy.

No foul play was suspected, and no indications of foul play were found during the autopsy. The investigation is continuing.
