Academy Sports Opens, George Wilson Goes Shopping

Academy Sports + Outdoors has opened their newest store in Paducah, and a local sports hero helped them celebrate.

The Houston-based chain officially opened on Friday, but on Thursday night, former NFL player and Paducah native George Wilson brought 30 youth from his George Wilson SAFETY Foundation for a shopping spree. 

Each child got to shop with George and get help from the stores employees, as they each spent $100 of the foundation's money.

The 62,000 square-foot store is the newest of over 230 stores in 16 states throughout the south, southeast and midwest. The store said it will employ more than 100 people.
