The athletic trainer at a local school has been fired because of an alleged sexual relationship with a student.

Greg Thompson, CEO of the Orthopaedic Institute of Paducah, told West Kentucky Star their office received a letter on February 20 about employee Felicia Watson, who was assigned as the Athletic Trainer at Massac County High School. The letter indicated there was an alleged inappropriate relationship between Watson and one of the male students. The student had allegedly spent the night at Watson's home in January.

Thompson said since she had been hired solely to work at the school, Watson's employment was terminated the next day. He said there had been no other issues while she was employed there, and he believed this was her first full-time job since graduating from college.

Thompson said Orthopaedic Institute has supplied another trainer to the school.

Massac County School Superintendent Jason Hayes issued a statement Tuesday evening saying the school contacted the Department of Children and Family Services, as required by law, immediately upon hearing the allegations almost two months ago. He said the alleged incident did not happen at the school, and they are cooperating with investigations by law enforcement and DCFS.

The school district's press release said they would not comment further in order to maintain student privacy and to prevent the investigation from being compromised.
