The Baptist Health Paducah Sleep Center has earned a five-year accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

The sleep center is designed to help people discover the cause of their sleeplessness or excessive sleepiness and then determine the most effective treatment options available to them. It offers in-lab and home sleep studies, multiple sleep latency testing and a clinic for follow-up, with board-certified polysomnographers and sleep specialist, neurologist John Grubbs, MD.

“This accreditation procedure is voluntary,” said Jena Flood, sleep center director. “Baptist seeks accreditation to promote a level of professional and technical expertise that contributes to quality performance and patient safety.”

Earlier this year, the center was expanded from two to four beds in renovated private rooms on the hospital’s 6th floor. Funding was provided by Baptist Health Foundation Paducah.

The center features full-size Sleep Number beds to offer a relaxing atmosphere, conducive to sleep for a better study. Fifty to 70 million adults report a sleep disorder (snoring, insomnia, sleep apnea), all serious problems that can put patients at risk for hypertension, diabetes, heart attacks and stroke.
