A Benton man was taken to the hospital after crashing his motorcycle Thursday evening.

Shortly before 5:30 pm Thursday, McCracken County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a motorcycle wreck near the intersection of Clarks River Road and Reidland Road.

Police said 28-year-old Erik Nemchik, of Benton was traveling Eastbound on his motorcycle in the left hand lane, when a vehicle began to merge into his lane. In an attempt to avoid a crash, Nemchik swerved left and ran off the road. He then hit a street sign post, and was thrown from the bike.

Nemchik was taken to Baptist Health for treatment of what police say were non-life threatening injuries. He was reportedly wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.

Police have not identified the driver of the other vehicle involved.
