A Paducah teen was hurt Wednesday evening in a crash on Benton Road.

At around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, deputies were dispatched to an injury accident on Benton Road at the intersection of Pugh Road.

On arrival, deputies located a male subject laying on the ground and a yellow moped off the eastbound side of the roadway with several pieces of debris in the roadway.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, 17-year-old Steven Walters, of Paducah was driving a moped eastbound on Benton Road. Walters attempted to make a left turn onto Pugh Road but was struck by a motorist attempting to pass Walters.

77-year-old James Owens, also of Paducah was traveling eastbound just behind Walters. Owens attempted to pass Walters in a passing zone without realizing Walters was making a left turn.  Walters made contact with the front passenger fender and wheel of Owen’s vehicle causing Walters to be ejected from the moped.

Walters was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries and Owens was not injured. The roadway was closed for approximately 30 minutes for clean up.
