Electrical service was interrupted for up to several hours Tuesday in parts of Paducah and an area stretching west into Ballard County.

The outage was reported to WestKentuckyStar about 1:30 pm for the area near Kentucky Oaks Mall, but the outage map for Jackson Purchase Energy indicated a larger area was affected.

Spokesperson Jamie Sears Rawlings for Jackson Purchase Energy said the affected area included parts of Paducah and West Paducah, Kevil and LaCenter. She said the problem originated with a Big Rivers Electrical feed to JPEC substations.

She said circuits that were capable of having power re-routed had service restored pretty quickly, but three JPEC substations in the Kevil and LaCenter areas could not supply power to cutomers until Big Rivers fixed their problem.

Most customers had power restored by 4:30 pm.
