Employees from Ingram Barge in Paducah contacted law enforcement early Wednesday morning to report a body floating in the water near Owens Island in Paducah.

Personnel from the Paducah Fire Department launched a boat and recovered the body.

McCracken County Deputy Coroner Ben Bradford says the body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville for autopsy. That followed an initial examination at the morgue at Lourdes Hospital.

The body is described as that of a white female, wearing blue jeans and Nike sneakers. It appears that she has been in the water between two and four weeks.

Reports of missing persons are being reviewed. The Sheriff's Dept. and Coroner's Office say they anticipate receiving positive identification of the body soon.
