A Burna man was arrested Sunday after alledgedly attempting to shoot his girlfriend while intoxicated Saturday afternoon.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Department arrested 31-year-old Richard T. Watson of Burna, KY around 2pm Saturday after receiving a complaint of guns shots fired on Burna Church Street.

The investigation revealed that Watson was apparently intoxicated and had fallen off of a four wheeler. His girlfriend 35-year-old Karen Gerhardt attempted to help him after the fall and he began to assault her. Gerhardt was knocked to the ground and stabbed Watson with a knife in order to escape. Watson then went to his home on Burna Church Road. A short time later Gerhardt went to their residence to check on Watson and found the door to be locked. Gerhardt announced that she was there and requested that Watson open the door. Gerhardt then heard two gunshots from inside the residence and ran back across the street to safety.

The investigation revealed that the gunshots were fired into the inside of the door where Gerhardt had been standing. Upon securing the scene sheriff's deputies and KSP troopers noted that Watson had an injury from the earlier stabbing during the first altercation with Gerhardt. Livingston County EMS transported Watson to Livingston County Hospital where he was treated for the injuries.

Watson was charged with one count of attempted murder and assault 4th domestic violence, and is lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
