A check on a pedestrian early Wednesday morning led to the person's arrest on drug charges.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, a deputy spotted a woman about 2:15 am as she walked along Benton Road near Bridge Street. He reportedly stopped to check on her safety because she was difficult to see and was on the edge of the road.

When asked for identification, the woman said she didn't have any, but gave a name and social security number. Deputies say they recognized her, and the name she gave didn't sound correct. Information from dispatch confirmed that the name given did not match the social security number.

Deputies say the woman continued to give false information, even after they warned her it was a crime. After she gave consent to search her bag, methamphetamine and a smoking pipe were found, so the woman was arrested. Deputies say this was when the woman revealed that she was 46-year-old Cindy M. Mitchell of Paducah.

Mitchell was taken to McCracken County Jail, where she was charged with possession of a controlled substance (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia and giving an officer false identification.
