At Tuesday night's City Commission meeting, the Mayor and Commissioners honored a state championship basketball team and some employees who have served the city for 20 years.

Assistant Fire Chief Gary LeNeave, who coached the West Kentucky Hawks basketball team, bragged on the team for winning the State Special Olympics Championship. He thanked the Parks Department and Street Departments for their help, and said with the city's help, the team was able to practice, improve, and win the state title.

To recognize years of service with the City, City Manager Jeff Pederson has initiated a program to provide service pins and an appreciation certificate to employees. At this meeting, employees with 20 years of service were recognized.  Employees with 25 years of service were recognized at the March 10 Commission meeting. Those with 5, 10, and 15 years of service will be recognized at the department level in staff meetings or other gatherings.

Employees receiving 20-year service pins and certificates are as follows:
·General Government: Tammy Sanderson
·Finance Department: Jonathan Perkins
·Planning Department: Steve Ervin and Nancy Upchurch
·Police Department: Stacey Grimes
·Fire Department: Barry Carter, Jeff Montgomery, Brian Waid, and Philip Weeks
·Engineering-Public Works: Brenda Johnson, Richard Krosp, and Michael Orenduff
·Parks Department: Luther Hayes
