Students and faculty at Concord Elementary School were evacuated just after noon Wednesday, when smoke alarms were activated in the building.

Jayme Jones, Director of Public Relations for McCracken County Schools, said a smoke alarm was activated, and teachers could smell smoke, so the building was evacuated. Fire departments and first responders came to the scene, and checked the building.

Jones said parents were notified of the evacuation shortly after it happened, and said everyone was allowed to re-enter the building about 30 minutes later.

When asked about school policy regarding parents who show up at the school when it is evacuated, Jones said school officials carry a notebook with student information, and kids can be checked out of class for the day by a parent with proper identification.
