With last week's resignation of Property Valuation Administrator Nancy Bock, she also withdrew from the election, which means there is nobody on the November ballot for this office.

Bock won the Democratic primary in May, and nobody ran as a Republican. After Bock was indicted on Friday, McCracken County Clerk Julie Griggs said she would confer with County Attorney Sam Clymer to make sure Kentucky laws are followed in the election process. She issued a press release Monday afternoon giving those details.

Griggs said if the vacancy occurs on or after September 15 in an election year, political parties can submit certificates of nomination for replacement candidates by 4 pm on the fifth business day after the vacancy occurs. This means parties must nominate a candidate by 4 pm this Friday, September 28.

However, not just anyone can be nominated. For this particular office, the party's nominee must have passed the PVA exam to qualify to hold the office if elected.

West Kentucky Star has learned that the Republican Party has already chosen a candidate, but it is not yet official. The Democratic Party will meet to choose a candidate on Wednesday.

Griggs said individuals may also run as a write-in candidate, but they are also required to have passed the PVA qualification exam. The deadline to declare write-in candidacy is the fourth Friday preceding the election, which would be October 26.
