A couple jailed in July on charges related to elder abuse are now facing more charges.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, detectives have continued investigating the relationship between the 91-year-old victim, her caregiver, Rebecca Carter, and Carter's husband, Lance, who allegedly assaulted the woman on July 15. They were arrested a few days later, after the woman told family members about the assault.

The Sheriff's Department says they found evidence of financial abuse by the Carters that dates back to November 2017. Detectives say they found 12 occasions when the Carters bought tools, generators, compressors, or other equipment from Home Depot stores using the victims' store credit card. Each time a purchase was made, detectives say the item was sold by Rebecca or Lance Carter at a pawn shop for cash. These purchases totaled $3,600 in charges to the victim's card.

The woman told detectives she had authorized the Carters to use the credit card, but only to purchase items necessary for the home.

Rebecca and Lance Carter have been charged with 12 counts of knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult, which is a class C felony.

The McCracken County Jail website indicates Lance Carter is still in custody. Both Carters are due in court for arraignment on their original charges on September 13.
