The U.S. Department of Energy has announced the 2019 public tour schedule of its site near Paducah.

Tour participants will get an up-close look at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant and the site’s cleanup operations. DOE offers site tours so the public can learn the history and honor the heritage of workers who met the nation’s defense and energy needs for many years. This year's tours will take place on April 6 and May 18.

After an orientation, visitors will get an up-close look at the site including a visit to the plant’s control facility, the hub of the gaseous diffusion plant. The tours also include historical videos, photographs, and information on current activities.

A required orientation will take place at West Kentucky Community and Technical College each morning at 8 a.m., and visitors will return to the college by 11:30 a.m. Afternoon tour orientation will begin at noon, and participants will return by 3:30 p.m.

The tours are free, and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Up to 40 spots per tour are available.

Participants must pre-register at https://www.fourriversnuclearpartnership.com/tours and must be U.S. citizens 18 years of age or older. The tours last about three hours and are coordinated by Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership, the DOE deactivation and remediation contractor.
