Six women, who are candidates for local offices, will speak at the McCracken County Democratic Party's annual Alben Barkley Dinner on Thursday, August 2.

They are state representative candidates Desiree Owen from the 1st district, Charlotte Goddard from the 2nd district, Martha Emmons from the 3rd district, Abigail Barnes from the 4th district and Linda Story Edwards from the 6th district. State Senate 2nd District Candidate Julie Tennyson will also speak.

Statewide elected officials and candidates who will speak include current Attorney General and Gubernatorial Candidate Andy Beshear, his running mate, Jacqueline Coleman and Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes.

Committee chair Linda Carroll said the event, scheduled right before the Fancy Farm Picnic, recognizes the Paducahan who became Vice President in the Harry Truman administration because "Barkley was a fabulous stump speaker out among the public and visiting with people."

None of the local speakers have run for office before, and all but one recently graduated from Emerge Kentucky. It was organized by Louisville attorney Jennifer Moore to increase the number of Democratic women leaders from diverse backgrounds in public office. Moore will also attend the event.

The dinner starts at 6 pm at Walker Hall. Advance tickets can be purchased for $30 at the group's website (see link below), or from any member of the executive committee. Tickets at the door will be $35.
