Five years after Whaler's Catch closed permanently, the building in downtown Paducah was purchased by a Missouri developer.

On November 8, 2014, the restaurant shut down permanently, after having closed the day before so employees could attend the funeral of owner John Harris. Employees and the public had been told the business would reopen after Harris unexpectedly passed away.

According to a deed of conveyance acquired by West Kentucky Star, the property was sold on November 8, 2019 for $425,000 to Missouri-based Centurion Development, LLC. Sources with knowledge of the situation tell West Kentucky Star the developer plans to partner with the owner of a Cape Girardeau restaurant, Broussard's, to open a second location in Paducah.

According to their website, Broussard's Cajun Cuisine has been open in Cape Girardeau since 1986, and is currently owned by Hunter and Stephanie Clark. In an August interview with KRCU radio, Hunter Clark said he was planning to expand to Paducah in the spring of 2020. Clark also said he may open locations in Marion and Carbondale, Illinois.

Last week, a sale was held at the former Whaler's Catch building, where people could buy furnishings, glassware and other items as the building was being emptied.
