A Dexter, KY, man faces various charges after police say he was found Tuesday afternoon passed out in his car with a needle in his arm.

Paducah Police responded at 12:50 pm to a report of a man passed out in a running car with a syringe sticking out of his arm on Ashcraft Avenue. An officer reportedly found the man 29-year-old Justin Burkeen, with a belt wrapped around his arm.

When the officer tried to wake Burkeen, he put the car into gear and fled, nearly hitting an ambulance that responded to the scene An officer later spotted Burkeen, parked and putting something into the trunk of his car, but Burkeen got back into his car and fled. Another officer was able to block Burkeen's vehicle with his vehicle, and took him into custody.

Officers searched Burkeen's vehicle and said they found syringes, a spoon, plastic baggies, loose pills, a belt and synthetic marijuana. Burkeen was charged with disregarding a stop sign, possession of synthetic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence (third offense in five years), first degree fleeing or evading police and first-degree wanton endangerment. He also was served warrants from Calloway County, charging him with parole violation, and Graves County, warrant charging him with contempt of court. He was booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
