Diagnostic Center Gets Gold Seal Accreditation
By Suzanne Farmer, Lourdes Hospital
PADUCAH, KY - Paducah Diagnostic Center has been awarded a gold seal of accreditation from The American College of Radiology, (ACR). The accreditation is for mammography and computer tomography (CT). The ACR renewed the accreditation for three years.

CT scanning- sometimes called CAT scanning- is a noninvasive medical test that integrates multiple x-rays taken in different locations from different angles to form a three dimensional image. A CAT scan may be used to diagnose or assess such conditions as cancer, broken bones, blood clots, and heart disease.

Mammography is performed to screen healthy women for signs of breast cancer. It is also used to follow up on findings from screenings or to evaluate a woman who has symptoms of breast disease.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of  imagequality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. The ACR accreditation assures the public that staff and equipment have passed the ACR's rigorous evaluation.

The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
