A Paducah teenager flipped his car while avoiding a head-on collision Thursday afternoon.

McCracken County Sheriff's Department says that the accident happened about 4:30 pm on Timothy Drive, when 17-year-old McKinley Rikel was driving east. He told authorities that an unknown red car crossed into his lane of traffic, forcing him to leave the roadway or be hit head-on. Rikel's car hit a mailbox and tree before flipping onto its roof in the front yard of a home at 100 Ken Lane.

Rikel was taken to Western Baptist Hospital by Mercy EMS for treatment of his injuries. Lone Oak Fire Department helped at the scene.
