Drug Disposal Event Saturday in Paducah
By WestKyStar Staff
PADUCAH, KY - Citizens with unwanted prescription medications will have an opportunity to safely dispose of them during an event planned for late September at Kentucky Oaks Mall.

The 'Drug Take Back' program is scheduled for Saturday from 10 am - 2 pm at the main entrance to the mall. It's sponsored by Paducah Police Department, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, McCracken County Sheriff's Dept., Four Rivers Behavioral Health, and other organizations.

Paducah Police Spokesperson Robin Newberry says, "Residents often don't know how to dispose of left-over medications, particularly after the death of a loved one. The Drug Take Back allows citizens to bring in prescription medications for disposal with no questions asked."

According to the federal DEA, Americans last October turned in 188.5 tons of prescription drugs at such events.

For those who will be unable to attend the event, a disposal bin is located in the lobby of the Paducah Police Department, located at 1400 Broadway, and is available to the public Monday through Friday between 8 am - 5 pm.
