The Empty Bowls Project event is scheduled for today from 11:30 am - 2pm at the Julian Carroll Convention Center.

Empty Bowls raises thousands of dollars for the Community Kitchen, which is located on Broadway in Paducah. Project coordinator Michael Terra says just over $21,000 was collected last year.

The kitchen serves about 54,000 lunch-time meals per year to not only Paducahans, but others in the area as well.

The Empty Bowls annual event raises money for the kitchen when participating restaurants bring their food and personnel to the event site. Members of the public who have paid the $15 event fee then choose one of hundreds of bowls that have been hand-crafted specifically for the event. They fill the bowl with food from the participating restaurants, and take it home when they're finished eating.
