Events, Schedule Changes for Memorial Day Weekend

There's plenty happening this Memorial Day weekend around Paducah. Here is a list of weekend activities planned for the area, along with a list of schedule changes for the holiday weekend.

Events:

-Starfish Orphan Ministry Color Run:  Starfish Orphan Ministry is holding its annual Color Run 5K event Saturday, May 28 at 8 a.m. at Noble Park.  During the race, access to the park will be limited and available only by using the baseball field parking lot entrance off Park Avenue.  For registration information, visit www.starfishorphanministry.org.
 
-Noble Park Pool:  The Paducah Parks Services Department will open the Noble Park Pool for the season on Saturday, May 28.  It will be open Memorial Day from 11 a.m. until 5 pm During the season, which runs through August 7, the pool will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 until 5 p.m.  It will be closed to the public on Mondays with the exceptions of Memorial Day and Independence Day.  Pool admission is $6 for adults and for children at least five years old, $3.50 for children four years old and younger, and $3.50 for seniors.  The Parks Services Department reminds the public that swim diapers are prohibited in the pool.  All swimmers must be toilet trained.  Children in swim diapers can play in the spray pad area. 
 
On Friday evenings from June 3 through August 5, enjoy Family Swim Nights.  The pool will be open 6-8 p.m. with $3 general admission.  All children must be accompanied by a supervising adult.  The Concession Stand also will be open.   For more information about upcoming Noble Park Pool special events, pool rental, and swimming lessons, visit www.paducahky.gov/noble-park-pool. 
 
-Robert Coleman Spraypark:  The Robert Coleman Spraypark located at Husbands Street and Walter Jetton Drive will open to the public on Saturday, May 28.  The free spraypark is open daily from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. through Labor Day or until the weather turns chilly.  It will be open Memorial Day.
 
-Music in the Gazebo, Smashin’ Summer Saturday Nights:  From 6 until 8 p.m. on select Saturdays at the downtown gazebo located at 2nd and Broadway, enjoy Music in the Gazebo organized by Paducah Main Street.  Bring a lawn chair and sit around the gazebo to hear free concerts. Concerts will be held on the following Saturdays:  May 28, June 11, June 18, June 25, July 9, July 16, July 23, and August 13.
 
-National Club Baseball Association Youth Clinic:  Players and coaches with the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA), in cooperation with Paducah Elks Lodge 217, Paducah Parks Services, and the Paducah Convention & Visitors Bureau, will be holding a free youth baseball clinic at Brooks Stadium on Monday, May 30 for boys and girls ages 4-14.  At the clinic, kids will get tips in hitting, throwing, and fielding from the college baseball players and listen to a speaker teaching life skills.  Registration begins at 10 a.m. with the clinic starting at 10:30 a.m.  Kids should bring their own glove to the clinic. Participants will receive a free t-shirt and baseball or softball at registration while supplies last.  The NCBA World Series involves eight college teams travelling to Paducah for the tournament held at Brooks Stadium, May 27 – June 2.  For more information, visit www.clubbaseball.org and click on the World Series link at the top of the page.
 
The annual Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at the McCracken County Courthouse Lawn (Courtroom C in Case of Inclement Weather) at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 30. Each year the McCracken County Fiscal Court honors those who gave their lives for our country. This year the McCracken County Commissioner Jerry Beyer will be speaking to honor those brave heroes.


Schedule Changes:

City Hall located at 300 South 5th Street will be closed on Monday, May 30 for the Memorial Day holiday.

The McCracken County Courthouse will be closed Monday, May 30th in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday.

The City of Paducah Engineering-Public Works Department will not collect brush or limbs on Monday, May 30.

The Compost Facility located at 1560 North 8th Street will be closed on Monday, May 30 but will resume normal operating hours on Tuesday, May 31. The regular operating schedule for the Compost Facility is Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.  The facility accepts limbs, brush, and other yard waste from local residents.

The trash collection schedule for the Memorial Day week will not change.  If you have questions, contact the Engineering-Public Works Department at 270-444-8567.
