Multiple fire crews responded Tuesday to the scene of a reported fire at Paducah's Westowne Inn.

Paducah Fire Chief Steve Kyle said they were called to the motel after hot spots were detected following a fire on Monday.

Firefighters were on the scene shortly after 8 am Tuesday. The motel is on Hinkleville Road next to Hancock Fabrics.

Kyle said Monday's blaze was in a second-floor room being used by an employee, and was reportedly started by a cigarette that caught a mattress on fire, and spread to a nearby wall. Firefighters actually spotted the smoke coming from the building about 3:30 pm as they passed by the area in their truck.

On Tuesday, the call came from an electrician who noticed the hot spot while working at the motel.

No customers were evacuated on Monday, or during Tuesday's call, according to Kyle.
