The City of Paducah is holding Firehouse Chili on Friday, December 15 to benefit the United Way of Paducah-McCracken County. Everyone is invited to stop by Fire Station #1 located at 301 Washington Street from 11 am until 1 pm to purchase chili, chili pie, chili dogs, and/or hot dogs cooked by firefighters. Bring the entire family or office and enjoy lunch at one of the many tables set up in the fire station’s heated bays.

Assistant Fire Chief Gabe Reeves says, “It’s very exciting for the Paducah Fire Department to once again host Firehouse Chili.  We enjoy cooking for a great cause since the United Way assists so many local partner agencies. Plus, we especially look forward to talking with Paducah’s citizens while enjoying a tasty lunch.”

City of Paducah Executive Assistant Claudia Meeks helps coordinate the lunch. Meeks says, “We have set our goals high this year. Last year, Firehouse Chili raised more than $1100 dollars for the United Way. I hope everyone attends this year’s event so that we can break last year’s record.”

The City directors provide funds to purchase supplies while members of the Paducah Fire Department furnish the ingredients and cook the chili.  Pepsi Mid-America is donating beverages. Due to the employee and corporate donations for the food and supplies, 100 percent of the proceeds from the luncheon benefits the United Way of Paducah-McCracken County.

The 2016 Firehouse Chili event provided $1112 for United Way which was a significant increase from the $740 raised in 2015. Annually, City of Paducah employees raise an average of $10,000 through fundraising events such as Firehouse Chili and employee contributions out of paychecks.
