Flooded in January, Unga Bunga To Close In May

After a freak accident flooded their store in January, the owners of Unga Bunga Music have announced they will have to close.

All stores in the strip mall at 3790 Hinkleville Road were flooded on January 2 after a water pipe in an unused unit froze and burst in the extreme cold weather. Since that time, owners Rusty and Michelle Clutts have been dealing with cleanup of the store and claims with insurance companies. 

A clearance sale has been in progress, and owners were evaluating whether they would be able to keep the store open. On Monday night, Michelle posted on the store's Facebook page that they would close by May 15, possibly sooner.

The post said, "After getting final word from our insurance company, we can no longer stay open. To be taken out by a flood is a hard pill to swallow. We’ve gone from a NAMM Top 100 store in the world, to closed. It was not our plan. Thank you for trusting us with your business and friendship for the last 28 years."

The store was recognized last summer as one of the top 100 dealers by the National Association of Music Merchants, the global association of music products and music retailers.

Unga Bunga opened in 1990 and has operated from various locations over the years, from Cardinal Point Shopping Center to the 3100 block of Park Avenue to their current location.
