PADUCAH, KY - A former assistant fire chief in Western Kentucky has been taken into custody and charged with an alleged rape that occurred more than 30 years ago.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department on Friday began investigating allegations of a rape that allegedly occurred in 1982. The victim further alleged that she was only 11-years-old at the time of the rape, which was reported to have occurred on Hermon Avenue in the Farley area.
During the investigation detectives obtained enough evidence, including an admission from the suspect, to obtain an arrest warrant for 62-year-old Barry Arant of West Paducah.
Detectives found Arant at his home on Tuesday and took him into custody without incident. Arant was lodged in the McCracken County Jail on charges of Rape 1st Degree. Bond was set at $100,000.
