The former treasurer of a local scholarship endowment fund who pleaded guilty to theft in February has been granted shock probation.

Danny Fugate was sentenced on May 7 to 25 months in prison after pleading guilty in McCracken County Circuit Court to two counts of theft by unlawful taking more than $10,000. The charges stemmed from accusations that he stole thousands of dollars from the NAACP scholarship fund that he managed.

Court records show Fugate's defense team requested shock probation in the case, which was granted by a judge. It means he won't have to serve any additional time in jail as long as he abides by the terms of his probation conditions.

Under the order, Fugate will be required to pay full restitution for the amount of stolen money.
