A fugitive arrest on Tuesday led police to a meth lab at a West Paducah home.

In 2003, David Mcelya was convicted of Theft of Anhydrous Ammonia with Intent to Manufacture Methamphetamine, Intimidating a Participant in a Legal Process, and Trafficking Cocaine in Ballard County. He was Paroled on August 15, 2012 and was to be a resident of the Halfway House in Paducah, KY. He left the Halfway House, thereby violating his parole and a warrant was issued for him.

After Mcelya absconded, The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department began receiving information regarding his whereabouts and additional information alleging he was involved in illegal drug activity. Detectives began conducting surveillance on a West Paducah home on Tuesday afternoon. Through surveillance, detectives observed Mcelya leaving the home as a passenger in a vehicle.

At around 5:42 p.m. detectives and McCracken County Sheriff’s deputies stopped the vehicle on Old Highway 60 West near the intersection of Roy Lee Road. Mcelya and his girlfriend Deanna Knight were both arrested. During the arrest, Mcelya attempted to flee from detectives and also resisted arrest. The driver of their vehicle, Aaron Knight was also arrested.

Deanna and Aaron Knight were both charged with drug offenses including possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance. An undisclosed amount of US currency, believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales, was also seized from Mcelya.

Pursuing their investigation further, detectives with the Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at 2930 Indian Mounds Trail, the residence in which Mcelya and Deanna Knight had been hiding. The warrant was executed Tuesday at around 8:30 p.m. Steven and Melanie Green were located at the residence, as well as their 12 year old son.

During a search of the residence, detectives located items used to manufacture methamphetamine, a quantity of methamphetamine, and methamphetamine paraphernalia. These items included chemicals, Sudafed, and needles. Several loaded guns were also located inside the residence, including a handgun which was concealed under an article of clothing on the master bed in close proximity to the meth making items. Evidence of further meth manufacturing items was also located in the residence.

The investigation continued and detectives learned that the Greens had been purchasing items to use to make meth for several months. The investigation also showed that the Greens had given some of those items to others so they could make meth. Detectives also learned that Deanna Knight had purchased items that were used in the manufacturing of meth. The five arrested individuals were lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail. The child was released to a family member.
