Hammond Accepts US National Commission Appointment

Mary Hammond, Executive Director of the Paducah Convention & Visitors Bureau, has been appointed to serve as a representative of state and local interests to the U.S. National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization through 2018.

The National Commission serves as an advisory committee to the U.S. government, through the U.S. Department of State through which the appointment by Secretary John Kerry was received. The Commission provides expert advice on U.S. interests in educational, scientific, cultural and communications issues at UNESCO.

Paducah was admitted to UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network as a City of Crafts & Folk Art in November 2013. Hammond has been actively engaged in the Creative Cities Network and the thematic area of Crafts & Folk Art as Paducah CVB facilitates UNESCO programs locally.
