The Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce will also host a forum for local candidate races on Thursday, October 23, at 6 pm in the Clemens Fine Arts Center on the West Kentucky Community Technical College campus.

The program will consist of brief remarks by the candidates for Property Valuation Administrator, McCracken County Clerk, and the City and County Commissions, followed by a question and answer session from a local media panel for the County Judge Executive candidates Bob Leeper (I) and Jeff Hines (D). The media panel will consist of representatives from NewsTalk 94.3 WKYX, WPSD-TV, and The Paducah Sun newspaper.  Chad Lampe of WKMS will serve as moderator.

Candidates invited to speak include:

PVA candidates Nancy Bock (D) and Bill Dunn (R);

McCracken County Clerk candidates Julie Griggs (D) and Becky Bowers (R);

City Commission candidates in the non-partisan race: Richard Abraham, Frank Bennett, Jason Crockett, Carol Gault, Allan Rhodes, Sandra Wilson, Eric Youngblood, and Melissa Youngblood;

County Commission District 1 candidates Ronnie Freeman (D) and Bill Bartleman (R)

County Commissioner for District 3 Jerry Beyer and District 2 Commissioner-elect Scott Wathen are both unopposed in the General Election, but have been invited to speak.

Each person will be allowed two minutes for their comments.

In a press release, the Chamber provided responses by the candidates for County Judge-Executive to a question they submitted.

Question: What specific goals do you wish to achieve if elected as County Judge Executive?

Jeff Hines (D)
I feel that one of our most pressing issues is that we must come to terms with the monumental loss of jobs at USEC. I will work tirelessly to attract new business and industry to McCracken County. We also must nail down plans regarding the animal shelter, whichever plan is chosen must have proper funding in order to sustain it.

Bob Leeper (I)
My first goal would be to work with my fellow county employees to provide services efficiently and effectively.  Using my legislative experience, both at the local and state level, I would work to build cooperation with elected leaders at all levels with the primary goal of creating a community that is an easier sell for our economic development professionals. Job creation through existing businesses and industrial recruitment will be the cornerstone of our effort. Over the past 24 years, the voters of the 2nd senate district have allowed me to gain the experience, insight, and knowledge necessary to help prepare budgets. Working with county elected officials to prepare fiscally responsible budgets is a challenge I look forward to addressing.
